Our Mission

Healthy Growth (Faith, Family, Feelings, Finances, Future, Physical Body)

Grace Church of Durham is dedicated to nurturing ‘Healthy Growth’ in every aspect of life, including faith, family, feelings, finances, future, and physical well-being. Our mission is to create a welcoming and transformative community where individuals and families can experience spiritual and personal growth. Through faith-filled worship, supportive fellowship, and community outreach, we empower our members to strengthen their faith, build resilient families, address emotional well-being, manage finances wisely, embrace a hopeful future, and prioritize physical health. At Grace Church, we believe in holistic growth, helping individuals thrive in all dimensions of life as we journey together in faith and purpose.

Church History

On September 5, 2004, the Durham-Raleigh area began a significant transition as Grace Church of Durham, where Dr. Kedrick T. Lowery serves as Senior Pastor, opened its doors for the first time. Grace Church seeks to meet the whole person, for it is a “Ministry With You In Mind.”

Equipped with a vision to reach all ages and ethnicities, Dr. Kedrick Lowery employs a practical approach to the complex situations of life. An alumnus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina and Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH, Pastor Lowery accepted the call to ministry and was licensed to carry the gospel in 1992 under the tutelage of Bishop John L. Hines.

Embracing a passion for youth, Dr. Lowery served at the helm of youth ministry in multiple congregations, including a 7 – year tenure as Youth Pastor at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church where Bishop Sheldon McCarter serves as Pastor.

In November 2003, Bishop McCarter preached the message “What Are You Waiting For?” Convinced and convicted, Dr. Lowery spoke with Bishop following service. Their conversation led to a mutual agreement that it was time for Dr. Lowery to “leave the nest.” This aggressive approach to God’s Call laid the foundation for the formation of Grace Church of Durham.

With clear origins in faith and leadership in constant pursuit of spiritual excellence, Grace Church is a ministry on the cutting edge “With You In Mind”!

Foundational TruthsWhat We Believe

Purpose Statement

We will invoke continual transformation in the lives of our members through study and application of God’s Word.  We will enhance growth and development, holistically, in men and women spirit, soul and body as a catalyst for them to fulfill their destiny.

Our Beliefs

Bible – The infallible Word of God.  All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable to doctrine, reproof, correction and for instruction in righteous (II Timothy 3:16).

God the Father – Creator of all, giver of every good and perfect gift manifested as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ – Son of God and the Son of man.  Born of a virgin.  He died for the remission of our sins on the cross.  He was resurrected from the dead, ascended into heaven as Savior, Advocate and King and shall return for His church.

Holy Spirit – The promised Comforter sent at the ascension of Jesus Christ to glorify Him with the earthly purpose of reproving the world of sin, righteousness and judgment.

Man – A physical body that houses a spirit and soul (mind, will, and emotions.)  Man was created in the image and likeness of God to show forth His Glory.

Salvation – Through the blood shed Calvary experience, man was rescued from the penalty of sin in that Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law through His death, burial and resurrection.

Return of Christ – At a time known only by the Lord, Jesus Christ shall return for His people.  We shall take of corruption and put on incorruption, we shall be changed from mortal to immortal and we shall reign eternally with our Savior and King.  This is the blessed hope of every believer.

Church Sacrements

Water Baptism – Water immersion after accepting Christ as Lord and Savior is an outward showing of your newfound inward grace.  This immersion signifies one “dying to sin and corruption and being resurrected to life anew.

Communion – A commemorative service symbolic of the death of Christ as prophesied at the “Last Supper.”  The bread represents His body (which was broken) and the juice represents His blood (which was shed) for the remission of our sin.  We show forth the remembrance of His dying and suffering as often as we partake worthily in the ordinance.
